The VU Amsterdam Summer School offers interactive small-scale courses (max. 25 students) in an intimate setting. The courses are designed to provide an intensive, in-dept look at your topic of study. You will study with a unique group of peers, from all parts of the world. Encouraging interesting discussions and the development of intercultural competences.



VU Amsterdam Summer School offers two-week courses in consecutive blocks during the month July. It is possible to combine two courses in order to create a four-week programme.

All courses include built-in excursions to museums and institutes such as the Anne Frank House and the International Criminal Court. This extends the learning beyond the classroom and enhances the courses' practical applicability.

Personal guidance by your instructors, all excellent professors at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and a stimulating cultural environment provide a meaningful and lasting experience.

Housing services

The VU Amsterdam Summer School offers two different housing options. Housing at the university campus Uilenstede and housing at Hotel Jansen. Hotel Jansen is a small-scale student hotel with excellent facilities, located nearby the university. Housing at Uilenstede has limited availability. Make sure to apply and pay in time if you prefer this option!

Student Life

Campus life

At the campus you will find among other things the lively bar Il Caffé, an extensive sports centre and the Griffioen Cultural Center. A grocery store and other shops are available at a 5 minute walking distance.

The rooms at Uilenstede are fully furnished and have a shared bathroom and shared kitchen. Bed linens and kitchen utensils are provided. Cable internet is available, but no Wi-Fi.
