Ural University is the oldest higher educational institution in the Ural region. . It was founded in Ekaterinburg in 1920. After some time the University split into two: Ural State University (USU), specializing in fundamental, natural and mathematical sciences, humanities and social studies, and Ural Polytechnic Institute.
UrFU offers 400 Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Programs in natural sciences, engineering, IT, social sciences, humanities and economics in Russian and English. For students willing to spend a period of study at UrFU we offer winter and summer schools and exchange programs including those carried out together with Erasmus partners. In 2015 UrFU Bachelor program "International Economics" has received a prestigious EPAS accreditation. All Bachelor and Master students are encouraged to spend a period of study in one of our partner universities, including Erasmus and North2North partners. For students willing to study in Russian UrFU offers an intensive one-year foundation course; at the end of the year they can pass an internationally recognized Test of Russian as a foreign language.

After university, UrFU graduates build their careers in universities and research organizations worldwide, as well as in renowned companies like Google, Microsoft, KPMG, Ernst and Young etc. UrFU maintains close partnerships relations with the leading companies and enterprises in the region, providing students and graduates with wide internship and employment opportunities. International students can start the career during their studies – they can work as research or teaching assistants in the university, or find other kind of part-time employment, and the university staff will help them with getting a work permit.
Ural Federal University offers different kinds of services to international students in order to facilitate the adaptation process and support them during their studies. Within the frames of UrFU Buddy Program Russian and international university students help newcomers adapt to their studies and solve all organisational matters (meeting at the airport/train station, settling into the dormitory, medical examination and obtaining health insurance). Buddy Program also organizes sightseeing tours, parties and festivals. UrFU International Service helps students with the ongoing study process, accommodation, visa and work permit issues.
International students can choose to stay on-campus in one of UrFU dormitories or rent an apartment or room off-campus. In case they opt for the second variant, they can contact UrFU Student Union , and they will help them in the search for a home. The approximate cost of on-campus is about 25-30 USD per month, the cost of off-campus accommodation starts from approximately 150 USD per month.
UrFU Library is the largest university library in the region with the stock of more than 3 million units. There are more than 48 000 readers today. The structure of the Library includes: 8 lending libraries, 8 reading halls, 3 information centers.
UrFU IT Directorate provides IT support to the students and staff. All students have access to the Student’s Personal Account, where they can check the schedule of their lectures and seminars, find information about their grades etc. Mobile application UrFU Guide (available for Android and Ios) was designed to help first-year international students to get around and adapt better.
For all international students it is necessary to have a medical insurance certificate. UrFU International Student Support Center provides assistance in issuing these certificates on campus. The University has its own polyclinic and a number of on-campus first aid rooms.
UrFU campus includes 14 educational buildings, 13 dormitories, 13 sports facilities; campus buildings are located in two districts, both close to the city center. In the walking distance from the academic buildings and dorms there are cafes and restaurants, supermarkets and other necessary facilities. On campus there are canteens and cafeterias, ATM, a bank branch (SKB bank), a gift shop.
UrFU sport facilities include winter stadiums, 11 specialized sports halls, two ski resorts, ice skating rink and 14 athletic fields on the territory of the campus. New sports complex was opened in 2007 and in 2011 the construction of University swimming-pool was finished.
Ural Federal University organizes more than 200 sports, social and cultural events annually, and actively supports international events organized in the city and region. International students can become members of 23 student organizations, including such large international student organizations as BEST (Board of European Students of Technology), AIESEC, Erasmus Student Network, etc.; they also can develop their talents in performing groups of UrFU.
