The academic year at Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University starts in September and ends in June (01.09-30.06) every year. Bachelor Degree takes 4 academic years to complete, Master Degree takes 2 academic years to complete, Doctor Degree takes 3 academic years to complete.

The Students' Club of the Polytechnic University is a structural unit of the SPbPU Department of Youth Creativity and Cultural Programs. The Club aims to enable social adjustment and effective self-fulfillment, and bolster the creative potential of SPbPU students, who will go on to become scientific and engineering elite.
Over 7000 students from other cities and countries live in dormitories of SPbPU campus. All dormitories are situated not far from the academic buildings of the university and underground stations. The campus is divided in 3 complexes of dormitories: "on Lesnoy prospect", "on Ploshchad Muzhestva" and "on Grazhdansky prospect".
The Fundamental Library of Peter the Great Saint-Petersburg University was opened to the public in 1902, together with the University itself, and at present, it is one of the largest in the city. The Library funds exceed 3 mln copies. The main part of the Library is located in the Main Academic Building, erected upon the project of E.F. Virrich in 1902, its surface area being more than 3,000 square meters.

The students, faculty, and staff of the Polytechnic University have a very busy life: they pursue a great number of activities varying from social welfare charities to professional and amateur sport contests. The Polytechnic University is a large community - it provides a wide range of social, cultural, recreational and artistic on-campus facilities for its students and staff. Be it sports, music, dancing, acting, or whatever - you can find the necessary facilities and people to share your interests.
The first director of the Polytechnic University Prince A.G. Gagarin, caring for students’ active recreation and regarding the considerable distance of the Institute from the city center, ordered to equip the university with two tennis courts and give "the big room down the hall of residence" for coming into fashion "ping-pong". Soon a special gym was equipped.
Currently the Polytechnic University has a modern complex of sports facilities. It includes a swimming pool, basketball and volleyball halls, halls for wrestling and boxing, a gym, a ski-storage, a climbing wall, a weightlifting gym, a chess club, a training base in the village of Kavgolovo.
More than 15 Students Communities work and actively develop in SpbPU. Among them any interested student will find something for himself/herself: a dance studio, a design community, a photo lab, a radio studio, a video studio, a theater studio, a choir studio, a vocal studio, an art song club, a career guidance team, and others
